Quickstart

A board, a portal and your first ten votes in five minutes.

Install in an afternoon. Then read what they asked.

Five steps from an empty workspace to feedback that is tied to who asked and what they pay.

1. Create the workspace

Sign up at theyasked.me/signup. You get a workspace with one board ("Feature requests") and six statuses: Open, Under review, Planned, In progress, Shipped, Closed. Rename them in Settings → Statuses; the category behind each one (open, planned, complete…) is what roadmaps and metrics use.

Your public portal is live at https://theyasked.me/<workspace>. Set the accent colour, logo, title and intro in Settings → Branding. Turn the roadmap or changelog off there if you don't want them public.

2. Put the widget in your product

<script>
  (function (w, d, s) {
    w.TheyAskedQueue = w.TheyAskedQueue || [];
    w.TheyAsked = w.TheyAsked || function () { w.TheyAskedQueue.push(arguments); };
    var js = d.createElement(s); js.src = 'https://theyasked.me/widget.js'; js.async = true;
    d.head.appendChild(js);
  })(window, document, 'script');
  TheyAsked('init', { workspace: '<workspace>' });
</script>

A "Feedback" button appears bottom right. Already have the older Loop(…) snippet? It keeps working. All widget options →

3. Identify signed-in users

Copy the SSO secret from Settings → SSO to your server and sign a token per session:

const token = jwt.sign(
  { id: user.id, email: user.email, name: user.name,
    company: { id: account.id, name: account.name, plan: account.plan, mrr: account.mrr } },
  process.env.THEYASKED_SSO_SECRET,
  { algorithm: 'HS256', expiresIn: '1h' },
);
TheyAsked('identify', { token });

Votes now carry the company, plan and MRR, which is what Insights ranks by. Python, Ruby, PHP, Go, C# and Java →

company is whatever group your users belong to, B2B or B2C: an account, a store, a family, a class, a clan. Send it for every user who has one, so a request counts once per group and a shared subscription is never counted twice. Pick the word the dashboard uses in Settings → General → Customers (Companies, Families, Classes…). Individuals only? Leave company out. Grouping for every business model →

Using an AI assistant to integrate? Point it at theyasked.me/llms.txt, or copy the ready-made prompt from Settings → Widget. It never needs your SSO secret.

4. Add your mobile apps

Load https://theyasked.me/embed/<workspace>?platform=ios&token=<token> in a WebView. Posts and votes are tagged iOS or Android. Swift, Kotlin, React Native and Flutter →

5. Tell them it shipped

When something ships, write a Changelog entry and link the requests it closes. Publishing moves them to Shipped and tells everyone who asked for or follows them, in the app and by email: "You asked for it. It's live." The widget's "What's new" tab shows an unread badge until they've seen it.

Then read Pulse on Monday: what they asked for this week, votes, revenue at stake and the requests gaining momentum.

Who uses TheyAsked

Any product with users who ask for things, B2B or B2C:

  • B2B SaaS. Group by account; revenue at stake is each account's MRR, counted once.
  • Family apps. Parents and kids share one subscription: send the family as company and attributes.role (parent / kid), then see what parents want next to what kids want, per family.
  • Schools and learning apps. Group by class or school, roles teacher / student / parent.
  • Games and communities. Group by clan or club to see which communities push a feature, even when the product is free.
  • Commerce platforms. Group merchants by store, roles owner / staff.
  • Personal apps. No groups: each person's own plan and MRR count.
